3rd Blog Birthday!!!!

It's my blog's third birthday!

Over the years it's become my online sketchbook and art journal. I enjoy sharing what I'm doing with others here on my blog, as well as on twitter, and both my personal and fan pages on facebook, but almost all of what I post originates here on my blog.

Since my first blog post three years ago on Sunday, March 4, 2007, my work has changed a lot, including my decision not to quilt my work anymore. Now I'm mounting it on boards and canvases, or stiffening my painted/printed/stitched fabric and hanging it as is on the wall.

I've met many interesting artists and art appreciators, and I've had many nice discussions with them about my art, their art and/or art in general. My blog has also helped artists who have Deka Permanent Fabric paints for sale to find me, because I'm always on the lookout for Deka.

As a reminder, even though I have comments turned off on my blog, that doesn't mean I don't want to discuss my posts or share info. I just prefer discussing it via email, on facebook, by phone or in person. If you'd ever like to write to me, my email address is jeanne@jeannewilliamson.com.

2nd Blog Birthday!!!!

It's my blog's second birthday!

I love blogging, and also how my blog has become my online sketchbook. I also really enjoy the blogging community. It's a nice way to network with people all over the world, and I LOVE networking.

You can read my post from a year ago, when I celebrated my blog's first birthday, and also read my first blog post from Sunday, March 4, 2007.

I do have comments turned off on my blog, but doesn't mean I don't want to discuss my posts. I just prefer discussing it via email, phone or in person. Over the past two years, I've received many emails that share info and discuss my posts. If you'd ever like to write to me, my email address is jeanne@jeannewilliamson.com. If you want to call or snail mail me, go to my website, and click on my "contact" page for that information.

Happy Second Birthday Blog! I look forward to writing more posts, and also meeting more people. - Jeanne

BLOG BIRTHDAY!!!!

It's my blog's first birthday! My first blog post was on Sunday, March 4, 2007, where I jumped right in talking about my art work.

In early 2007, my book agent insisted I start a blog. I answered with a flat out "NO!", but we continued to debate it off and on. At first, I couldn't explain to her why I didn't want to do it, but after some soul searching, I realized it's because my blog reading experience at the time was only from reading negative local issues, with no positives. Besides the negative content, the blog I was reading at the time was moderated by someone who edited or deleted comments as he saw fit, and that's when I realized that I didn't want to have a blog that's negative, and I felt uncomfortable about reading comments, whether positive or negative. I decided that if I blogged about art (my favorite subject), and if I didn't have comments turned on, my comfort level would be good.

Even though I do have comments turned off on my blog, that doesn't mean I don't want to discuss my posts. I just prefer discussing it via email, phone or in person. If you'd ever like to write to me, my email address is jeanne@jeannewilliamson.com. If you want to call or snail mail me, go to my website, and click on my "contact" page for that information.

Since blogging for a year, I have made many new friends from all over the world, and I have found a community of artistic (and positive) blogs, many of which I read on a regular basis. Because of my blog, I have been thinking more about my inspiration, and about my art process, and the steps I take to get to my goals as an artist. My blog has turned in to my online sketchbook, and I'm glad I'm doing it. Blogging is also a nice way to network with people all over the world, and I LOVE networking.

So, Happy Birthday Blog. I look forward to many more years of posting, and meeting more people as a result of it. - Jeanne

Feedback/Comments

While I do have comments turned off on my blog, but that doesn't mean I don't want to discuss my work. I just prefer discussing it via email, phone or in person. This morning I got an email from my (art) friend Catherine Carter that I wanted to share, with her permission:

"Hi, Jeanne -- It's so interesting, in reading your latest blog entry, how similar working with fabrics is to working with paints.

You've added the transparent strips to "quiet down" certain areas of color visually.  A painter (in acrylic) would do exactly that by adding a layer of gel medium.  The same artistic principles and personal intentions apply, just the materials are different.

Or adding the strips of gray stitching are like drawing "lines" across a form that has become too dominant.

Very fascinating to me, the similarities and differences!"  - Catherine Carter.

Thanks for noticing the similarities Catherine! You hit the nail right on the head, of what I'm trying to do. Now to get the rest of the Art World to see that people can work in fiber, and it's still art. - Jeanne
