Busy Week Ahead

On Wednesday April 10, from 10:30am - noon, I'll be giving a demo at the Concord Art Association, in Concord, MA, called "Uncommon Cards: Creating large work to make small cards." At the demo I'll be showing and discussing my artwork, I'll demo how I work on a piece of art, talk about my upcoming book Uncommon Cards, and I'll show the actual cards that will be in my book. I will also be answering audience questions. Unfortunately there has been a delay in the publication date of my book, so I will not have the book there to share.

On Thursday, April 11, at 7:00pm, I'll be on a participating in "The Experience of a Coaching Group for Artists," a panel discussion with artists who are in the exhibit, A Room of Our Own, at Concord Art Association, who are also a part of a ten person, self-coaching artist group. We'll discuss how often we meet, what professional development topics are discussed and what a typical meeting entails. Group members will share how their careers have developed as a direct result of the work done in the group and from networking with each other. There will also be time for questions.

Participating artists in the panel, and art exhibit, are: Adria Arch, Brenda Cirioni, Jodi Colella, Catherine Evans, Ilana Manolson, Margot Stage, Kathleen Volp, Martha Wakefield, me (Jeanne Williamson), and Merill Comeau, who will also be the moderator.

A Room of Our Own is on exhibit through May 5, 2013. My work in the show is my semi-autobiographical series, (Fence) Shirts And (Hot) Flashes #1-6, and a temporary art installation is outside.

A Room of Our Own

I have work on exhibit in A Room of Our Own at the Concord Art Association in Concord, MA, through May 5, 2013. The Opening reception is tonight, Thursday, March 28, from 6-8pm.

A number of us have outdoor installations, in addition to work inside the gallery. I wrapped a tree to the right of the side entrance of the building. This is the same piece I wrapped around a tree at the Boston Center for the Arts last year, and amazingly enough, it fit perfectly. Both trees coincidentally measure 90" around, which is nice since the two trees are extremely different from the other!

There are more pictures of this installation on my website. It's going be interesting to see how it looks as everything greens up for spring. Right now it's drab outside because there's nothing growing, and there are still patches of snow on the ground. I'll take pictures over the course of the exhibit and share them as the color changes.

On exhibit inside the gallery is my semi-autobiographical series, (Fence) Shirts and (Hot) Flashes #1-5, hanging next to Brenda Cirioni’s paintings.

We also have a Pop Up Shop at the CAA. Here is some of my small work hung with some of Brenda Cirioni’s.

On Exhibit - A Room of Our Own

I have work on exhibit in A Room of Our Own at the Concord Art Association in Concord, MA, from March 28 to May 5, 2013. The Opening reception is Thursday, March 28, 6-8pm.

I have met with a group of women artists each month for a number of years. At our Art Coaching Group, we discuss our art careers, review artists' statements, resumés and websites, and network and support each other as we navigate the art world. A Room of Our Own is an exhibit of our recent individual work.

My work in this exhibit is my first semi-autobiographical series, (Fence) Shirts And (Hot) Flashes #1-6. I will also have an installation outside, on the grounds of the building. The specific installation will depend on whether there's snow on the ground on installation day, and how frozen or muddy it is, and also if I get over the flu in time to install it. Please check back for an update in a few days.

I hope you get to see the exhibit, and you are very welcome to join us at the opening reception and our artists' talk.

Thank you to the other members of this wonderful group!

(Fence) Shirts and (Hot) Flashes

I apologize for the puns, but for this new body of work, I had to get something off my chest. The (Fence) Shirts And (Hot) Flashes series suggests the heat women feel in the upper part of their bodies when having a hot flash. In each of the six pieces, different styles of shirts or blouses are suggested. It's the first time I've ever worked autobiographically.

Each piece is a made with the monoprinted texture of a gridded construction fence, stitching, and painting on fabric that is mounted on boards that measure 18" x 14" x 1".

I created this series while a resident of the Millay Colony the past two weeks. I will be posting photos for the other two series I created soon.
