Press!

I want to thank ArteMorbida Textile Arts Magazine for spotlighting me in their most recent issue.

Until I got a google alert, I had not heard of ArteMorbida, but I'm really glad to now!

ArteMorbida "is a space dedicated to the varied panorama of contemporary textile arts. The web-site like the magazine is designed and created with the aim of collecting and witnessing the news and the latest trends in the sector, to encourage and facilitate the dissemination of the culture of Fiber Art, stimulating the interest of the public and promoting the recognition of Textiles as an autonomous means in the most vast field of contemporary arts."

Thank you ArteMorbida!

Work on exhibit in the February issue of Yew Journal

My work is on exhibit in the February issue of Yew Journal, paired with the poetry of Stacy Kidd.

There is a wonderful Bios page for all of the authors and artists, which is a fun read. This is mine:

Jeanne Williamson has a collection of over 500 Pez dispensers, 100 bottle openers, and 50 eyewash cups, and she shares a birthday with Garfield the Cat.

For more information about the Yew Journal, here are Issue Details.

Art Shirts Article

There is an article about the six painted sleeveless blouses I made this summer in the October/November 2013 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine on page 62.  It hits newsstands tomorrow.

The article has info about why I made the blouses, as well as information about how you can make your own too. You can find out more about this issue of the magazine here.

Studios Magazine

My studio is one of a group that is highlighted in Studios Magazine's Spring 2011 issue.

I was invited to participate shortly after I moved in in late September 2010. It was fun to take the pictures, and I'm really glad to be able to share how I set up and organized my space.

More info about the Spring 2011 issue of the magazine is here.

American Craft Magazine

Andrew Wagner, the Editor of American Craft Magazine, is leaving his post. I am very disappointed to learn this because the magazine has been really good since he took over. I've been a subscriber since 1978, give or take a year or so. Before Mr. Wagner, I would look at the pictures of the art, and that was it. Since he took over, I've enjoyed reading many of the articles. I think the February/March 2009 issue, about the blurring line between art and craft, was the best issue ever.

Read more as reported by greenjeansbrooklyn.blogspot.com.

I wish Mr. Wagner the best, and I look forward to seeing what American Craft will be like with Janet Koplos acting as Guest Editor.

President Obama and Construction Fences

Being a lover of orange construction fences, because I use them in my art work, I was very happy to see this picture of President Obama in Newsweek Magazine, sent to me by my Mom. (Thanks Mom!)

I'm not sure why the photographer chose to take a picture of President Obama at such an angle, and through a construction fence, but I like it.

Blurring Line Between Art and Craft

The February/March 2009 issue of American Craft Magazine has many wonderful articles about the blurring line between art and craft. I highly suggest picking up a copy.

I've been a subscriber of American Craft since the mid-1970's, and used to just look at the pictures. The magazine has grown up a lot, and the articles have gotten very current and interesting. It's now one of my favorite art magazines. Check it out.

Surface Design Journal Article

The Winter 2009 issue of Surface Design Journal arrived in the mail, and I was very excited to see it. I'm one of the artists in the article: "One Cloth, One Quilt: Whole Cloth Composition," by Rachel Cochran & Judy Langille, on pages 14 - 21.

Artists mentioned in the article are, Judy Langille, Rachel Cochran, Joan Dreyer, Ann Johnston, Clare Plug, Barb Wills, and me. I like and respect all of these artists' work, and it is an honor to be in their company.

I've been in many magazine articles, and I think this is one of the best, if not the best. Obviously, since I work with whole cloth, the subject was really interesting to me, but so was the way it was written. It was very easy to understand and relate to. I felt like all of the artists were giving me a written demo of their work. That's how understandable it was. Quite a compliment from a visual person, who usually needs illustrations to help figure things out. No need in this article.

Thank you very much to the Surface Design Journal, as well as Rachel Cochran and Judy Langille.

American Style Ad

I don't usually advertise, but when an offer came buy to have an ad in American Style Magazine's February 2009 issue that's focusing on Fiber, I decided to give it a try. Two organizations I belong to offered a rate for a part of their page, and I decided to be part of the Surface Design Association ad.

I don't have an actual copy of the magazine, so I don't know where exactly the SDA ad is, but I hope that the whole page is noticed by readers, and in general, that my ad is seen. As far as I know, placement on the page was random, but I'm pleased.

Felting Article

I wrote an article that is in the just released Quilting Arts Magazine's December/January 2009 issue. It's about my 2008 Weekly Mixed Media project, and my experiences with felting from art school through the present day. The title of the article is "Journal Felting with Punch", and can be found on page 76.

It is a pleasure to see some of my 6" x 6" pieces printed in the article. I think their photography is excellent! It was also a wonderful experience working with everyone at Quilting Arts.

The felt images in this post are from my website, where you can see all of my 2008 weekly mixed media work (so far). Or, you read about it here on my blog.
