New Work for Open Studios

I love it when I have a productive day! Some days, no matter how hard you try, things don’t seem to fall into place, and some days it does. Yesterday was a really productive day.

I worked on five new 6" x 6" Fence Detail pieces, as well as the five Seasonal Fences - Autumn series, I've been working on for some time, which I'm in the final stages of completing.

The picture above is a sneak peek of Fence Details #22, 23, 24, 25 & 26, which are almost completed. This afternoon, I'll finish them, and they should be dry by tomorrow for Open Studios. Since it's December, and the heat is on, the dry air should do the trick. After they’re finished, I’ll post pictures of them here and also on my website.

The 43 Main Street Holiday Open Studios are being held tomorrow from noon - 5pm at 43 Main Street, Studio 3, in Natick, Massachusetts.

Come visit my studio.

December Open Studios This Weekend and Next

If you're near Natick, Massachusetts between noon - 5pm this Saturday, December 10th, or Saturday December 17th, please come visit me in my studio at 43 Main Street, Studio 3. The artists at 43 Main Street Studios will hosting Holiday Open Studios.

I'll have calendars and artwork for sale, and my husband will also have some of his creations for sale too. He's created a number of cool lights and sconces that he's named switchlights, which use a color-changing fiber optic LED on a metal base. They are a modern take on the lava lamp, use under 2 watts of electricity, and are hand assembled in Natick.

If you can’t come to my studio, but would like to know more about possibly buying my art, you can write to me for prices or visit Artful Home to see a wide selection of my work their website.

Square vs My Old Credit Card Vendor

For the past four years, I had a different credit card vendor who was expensive and not easy to work with. Over the summer I signed up for a Square account, which I finally got to use at Open Studios this past weekend.

I put the Square in my iPad (or iPhone), slid the credit card through the scanner, and voila, the only thing the customer had to do was sign it with their finger and enter a phone number or email address if they wanted a receipt. No after the fact work on my end at all. No logging in to a website to document the transaction, no yearly fee, no transfer to bank account fee, no puny limits to transaction size, no monthly maximum sales total, and no credit card equipment to buy. There's just a small transaction fee and the money goes directly into my account shortly thereafter.

I couldn't be more pleased.

Hands down, Square wins! Thank you Square!

Storefront Installation

Inspired by a wonderful storefront installation that fellow artist and friend Adria Arch did, called Summer Constellation, and because there will be an ArtWalk in Natick, MA this Thursday, I asked the owner of Debsan, a paint and decorating store located at 25 Main Street (down the street from my studio), if I could do an installation in one of the front windows.

In a very short timeframe, I used three pieces that I created during my art residency at the Vermont Studio Center in May, as well as one of the first stiffened fabric pieces I made last year, and I created this installation. The picture below shows the installation from the side window.

What I learned is that it's really hard to decorate (or install) a window because you have to think about what it looks like from the sidewalk and street, from many angles and with different amounts of glare, depending on the time of day and the weather.

It's also very hot inside those windows in the summertime. And, it's even harder to photograph the window because of the glare and because of street and sidewalk traffic.

All in all, I definitely want to more installations, but with more time to create and plan. See more about the installations I've created.

Below is a picture of what the window looked like before I did my installation.
