Artful Home - New Work

I added some new work to my Artful Home page, three of the 14 piece Tallis and Fence series, and three from the Fences and Nests series. I think it would be nice for my paintings to find new homes, instead of hanging around my house.

The Tallis and Fence series is created with acrylic "skins" created from photos of my grandfather's tallis, collaged on monoprinted textures of construction fences on fabric that is stitched, and painted, and mounted on 8" x 6" x 1" cradled boardI noticed that Artful Home has a Judaica section, but there were no paintings, so now there are a few of mine.

The Fences and Nests series combines the monoprinted textures of orange construction fences with the nest-like circles of thread scraps, on 16" x 12" x 1.5" cradled board. I really like this series, and I'm grateful that a number of them have been sold over the past few years. Perhaps a few more will find new homes too.

If you're interested in seeing this work and more on Artful Home, take a look!

New Work: Fences and Nests #18

Fences and Nests #18 is the latest addition to my Fences and Nests series. I made it for my son, who just received his PhD in Mathematics, because he told me he likes hexagons.

Fences and Nests #18 is mixed media on cradled board, and it measures 10" x 10" x 1.5".

The background is a monoprint of a plastic hexagon garden fence, the dark hexagons in the lower middle is a scan from my vacuum cleaner air filter, and the colored stuff at the top is the "nest" that's made out of leftover threads. It needed the nest at the top for balance.

Acquisition!

I'm happy to report that Fences and Nests #5, #6, #8, #9, and #12 have been purchased by Meditech in Westwood, MA, for their corporate art collection.

A year ago Meditech in Framingham, MA acquired 10 pieces, Slivers of Fences #1 - #6 and Seasonal Fences #1 Four Seasons. You can read about that acquisition here.

Below is a picture of my work on the floor, leaning against the wall before being hung in a conference room. I'll try to get a picture of them hung if I can.

The Fences and Nests series are mixed media on cradled board. The twelve-part part of the series measure 16" x 12" x 1.5" each, and were created in 2012.  Seven of the pieces are looking for homes. I also created five more, #13 - #17, in various sizes. Two have permanent homes, and three remain. If you are interested in purchasing one or more in the Fences and Nests series, please get in touch.

New Work - Fences and Nests #14

Here is another new piece, Fences and Nests #14Yesterday I posted two other new pieces, Fences and Nests #15 and Fences and Nests #16

Fences and Nests #14 was created with threads, a few sequins, and a strip of fabric, all donated by my sister-in-law, Rebecca Ostroff, who is aaerialist in the circus. When Becky's performing at the top of the circus tent, it's magical. The materials she gave me were leftover from one of the costumes she created for her act. I had a lot of fun making this piece because of the family connection.

All three of the new pieces measure 10" x 10" x 1.5" and are mixed media on board. You can see all of the Fences and Nests on my website.

New Work - Fences and Nests

I've been having fun creating new "nests" with thread scraps donated by friends and family. Here are two new pieces, Fences and Nests #15 and Fences and Nests #16. A picture of Fences and Nests #14 is coming shortly. Hopefully tomorrow.

Fences and Nests #16 is a little different than the rest of the series in three ways. The thread scraps are threads removed from a garment that was taken apart by a friend, and they're really squiggly. I continued the grid to the top of the surface, instead of having the top part white, and I painted metallic white paint in the ovals to help bring attention to the white threads. which had been disappearing into the background. This piece is better seen in person because it's flattening out in the photo.

All three new pieces measure 10" x 10" x 1.5" and are mixed media on board. You can see all of the Fences and Nests on my website.

New Home - Fences and Nests #13

All the stars lined up yesterday, and I was able to put the finishing touches on Fences and Nests #13, and hang it in its new home. I love how it looks on the dark gray walls!

The powder room is in the center of the house. When the door is open, and when one is walking from the back of the house to the front, you're now greeted with my art.

I totally enjoyed working on this commission, and look forward to more.

Fences and Nests #13 is mixed media on board, and it measures 24" x 18" x 1.5". See more of the Fences and Nests series, twelve of which measure 16" x 12" x 1.5" each.

Commission: Fences and Nests #13

I've completed a commission, Fences and Nests #13. It's mixed media on board, and it measures 24" x 18" x 1.5", which is a larger size than the twelve Fences and Nests I created earlier this year. They are 16" x 12" x 1.5" each.

After Fences and Nests #13 Fences is hung, I'll take pictures and post them here and on my website.

It was a lot of fun creating this piece in a larger size, and also as a commission. The nest was chosen specifically to coordinate with the room and the client's esthetic.

Thank you new Fences and Nests #13 owner!

New Work: Fences and Nests #9 - #12

These are the last four pieces in my twelve part Fences and Nests series, Fences and Nests #9 - #12. It's been a lot of fun working each piece, and seeing how different each one is, while they also have many similarities.
