New Work: Patterns in Fences #14

I was commissioned by a family member to make a painting for a family friend. The commission included a request to try to use some of the contents of a small bag of yarn and knitted scraps. Patterns in Fences #14 is the result.

My color palette is very different that the color palette of what was in the bag, so I was only able to include a small white-ish knitted piece that I applied to the bottom of the painting. It fits perfectly in the space it's in, which is the top part of a monorinted hole in a construction fence. When attaching the knitting, I soaked it in matt medium so it still has the knitted texture, but is stiff, so it won't flop around or fall apart over time.

Thank you to the commissioner! To the new owner, enjoy, and thank you for being a part of our extended family!

Patterns in Fences #14 is 10.5" x 10" x 1.5" on mixed media on cradled board, created in 2015.

Sold!

Patterns in Fences #11 is going to a new home today. The buyer saw this piece on my website and wrote to ask about purchasing it.

Last night I packed it up, along with a bonus small non-art creation/thank you for buying my art gift, which I also included in the box. I’ll take it to FedEx this morning so it can make the trip from New England to the Midwest before we get another snowstorm tonight.

I have a particular fondness for my Patterns in Fences series because it's the first series I created after I stopped quilting my work over three years ago.

The Patterns in Fences series is mixed media on 10" x 10" x 1.5" cradled board, created in 2010.

Sold!

I'm happy to report that Patterns in Fences #9 sold for 150% of the opening bid at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design Foundation's 22nd Annual Benefit Art Auction, in Boston, MA in April. Totally awesome! I'm glad this this piece found a new home. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to help support one of my two alma maters.

As per my usual custom, a thank you card has been sent to the new owners.

11 and 12 out of 12

Here are two more new pieces. Both are 10" x 10" x 1.5", mixed media on cradled board. These are the last two, of twelve, pieces in this size that I have been working on since the beginning of the year.

I really need to think of a name for this series. I'm totally drawing a blank. Any suggestions? If so, please send me a note at jeanne@jeannewilliamson.com.

New Work

I've been busy creating new work. These are six new pieces that are untitled (at the moment). Each one measures 10" x 10" x 1.5" and is mixed media on cradled board.

I'm (still) working with imagery inspired by monoprints of construction fences, which are then handpainted and stitched, before being applied to the cradled board.

Some or many of these pieces may be on exhibit from March 17 - April 17, 2010 in a show I'm going to be in with Catherine Carter, named "Walls and Webs," at the Narrows Center for the Arts, in Fall River, MA.

More new work coming shortly. I'm working on it now.
