On Exhibit: Lost and Found

It was great to see my fabric painting, Outside/Inside, in the show Lost and Found at the reception this afternoon at the Umbrella Arts Gallery in Concord, MA. The show is on exhibit through December 30, 2022. The work in the show is really thought provoking and I encourage anyone near Concord to go see it if you are able.

It was fun seeing friends who I have not seen since the pandemic began or longer, and it was nice meeting some new artists whose names I recognized but I have not met. I am also very honored to have my work hanging with so many Boston area artists who I have admired for decades.

On Exhibit: Lost and Found

I am proud to share that my fabric painting in my Loss series, Outside/Inside, is included in the show, Lost and Found at the Umbrella Arts Gallery in Concord, MA, which is on exhibit from November 17 - December 30, 2022.

I am also very honored to have my work on exhibit with so many Boston area artists who I have admired for decades. And I am thankful that my piece is included in the photo collage on the show's poster and on the website.

"Juried by Jessica Straus, this show examines our relationships with familiar, unfamiliar and defamiliarized objects. Sometimes we find things we never knew we lost. They have been hidden away in our attics or our drawers. Other things we discover in the dailiness of our lives. We find meaning and even healing in found objects and pieces from the past. Meanings are created somewhere between claiming and severing relationships with objects, between reviving and recasting their history."

New Work: Outside/Inside

New work in my Loss series, Outside/Inside.

How someone appears to be while out in the world is not necessarily what they are feeling inside. Someone can be all smiles and appear very happy to those who see them, but they may be feeling physical or emotional pain and suffering inside.

The top half of the embroidery in the center is what we would normally see. The bottom half shows the untidy threads and knots in the back, which is hidden. Both representing our outside and inside.

The translucent fabric covering the bright monoprinted construction fence pattern in the center and inside the edge of the embroidery is also obscuring how we choose to present ourselves to the world.

Outside/Inside measures 25.25" x 27" and is mixed media on fabric. The embroidery was purchased on eBay.
