On Exhibit at DanforthArt

I’m honored to be in the DanforthArt Museum's Annual Juried Show with my piece Good Morning hanging under Daughter of Thistles by Astrid Reischwitz. It was wonderful to see so many artist friends at the opening last night.

If you can get to the Danforth, the show is open through September 17, 2023.

New Work: Good Morning

New work in my Loss series: Good Morning.

Everyday, as the day began when I was a teenager, I would say Good Morning to my family members, and one sibling always responded by saying “What’s so good about it?” This was a red flag that they needed help, but my mother was unable to see this because of her own emotional issues that haunted her her whole life.

Good Morning is mixed media on fabric and measures 28" x 31". There is a monoprinted pattern of a rounded construction fence on an embroidery I purchased on eBay, with stitching following the lines of the fence pattern, handstamped ovals in the “holes” of the fence pattern, and appliquéd rounded squares in the corners.

Work in Progress: Good Morning

I hand stamped ovals in the “holes” of the monoprinted and stitched construction fence pattern that’s around the Good Morning embroidery. Waiting for it to dry so I can do the next steps. Note: there’s a colorful drop cloth underneath to soak up the extra fabric paint to help avoid running.

New Work in Progress: Good Morning

I was able to monoprint an oval construction fence pattern directly on the fabric of this delicate Good Morning embroidery this weekend. Here are pictures of various steps. I printed the back side so the fabric paint would show inconsistently on the front, and on the top, bottom and side edges I printed directly on the front. Stitching the lines of the printed areas is next.

New Work in Progress: Good Morning

Working on building confidence before I attempt to monoprint a construction fence pattern directly on this delicate embroidery instead of only appliquéing on the fabric. 🤞🤞
