Last night, for Halloween, my roommate (AKA my husband) "carved" four peppers, an acorn squash, a butternut squash, and a very short white pumpkin. He got very nice effects with his cordless drill, a knife, and toothpicks. Above is a picture of the peppers. I love how they glow when there's a candle inside. Below are the squashes and pumpkin.
