12 x 12 x 12 August 2014

The August 12 x 12 x 12 is a combination of fabric and acrylic medium. It looks like it's encaustic, but it's not.

It's created with acrylic "skins" of photographs of details of the colorful mono prints I created this summer. The skins are layered on top of a base of monoprinted fabric, and small ovals of the "holes" of black on white monoprints are layered on top of the skins for contrast.

The picture above is what this piece looked like before I added the ovals on top of the skins.

Other pieces in this series that have a combination of skins and fabric are 12 x 12 x 12 July 2014, 12 x 12 x 12 June 2014, 12 x 12 x 12 February 2014, 12 x 12 x 12 January 2014, and 12 x 12 x 12 November 2013. I really like working this way. It offers a lot of possibilities.

The 12 x 12 x 12 monthly series is my monthly time to play with materials or an idea. This is my eighth year working on this series. Each piece is mixed media on 12" x 12" x 1" board. You can read past posts about this series here on my blog, or see all of the completed work on my website.
