New Work - Weathered Fences Series
I've completed three pieces in my new Weathered Fences Series, which explore how construction fences fall apart as they age in place at construction sites.
They measure approximately 35" x 48" and are mixed media on stiffened fabric. Because I've stiffened the fabric, they feel similar to actual construction fences, except they are a little lighter since they're fabric coated with acrylic matt medium instead of being made of plastic.
I had planned on creating two or three more in this series, for the show Catherine Carter and I are going to hang (tomorrow and Friday) at the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River MA, but I didn't have enough time. Oh well.
In terms of hanging the show, I'm trying to decide if I want to mount all three of these pieces on the wall, or if I want to hang one and use the other two as an installation. I have an idea, and I know what space in the gallery would be most appropriate. I bought some white rope with red specks, just in case I need it for the installation. I have this idea in my head, and won't know if it'll work until I'm in the gallery.
Also, I'm going to be in my first (outdoor) sculpture show starting in May, and I'm going to definitely create more Weathered Fences Series pieces for my submission. More on that soon.
