More New Work in Progress

Over the weekend I collaged sections of a vintage tablecloth on the new painting I am working on, after adding the 160 or so hand stamped squares onto the stiffened and stitched fabric with a monoprinted grids of a construction fence a week ago. I'm off from work for a week starting tomorrow, and will paint to the grid and the intersections. And I will also start working on some more new paintings.

Work in Progress: Dates in a Life Walking Project 2025

Here is the month of September in my Dates in a Life Walking Project 2025 painting, a year-long painting documenting the number of steps I walked each day. I have documented my steps in paintings since 2016.

The black icons represent up to 9999 steps walked each day, and red represents 10,000-19,999 steps.

Like I did in August, I was able to walk 10,000 steps or more on nine days (the red icons) because of mostly cooler weather.

On the last Sunday in September, I sprained my ankle when walking on an uneven path. Klutzy me once again injuring my right foot for the second time since May 2023. The green dots on the last three days reflect that injury, similar how I marked it in 2023 because it limited my walking for exercise. Thank goodness I didn't break my ankle! And thank goodness for hiking books which are perfect for splinting my foot so it can heal.

The Iridescent Bright Gold background paint used to signify the days (mostly weekends, but also including holidays, vacations days, and sick days) I was not at work, which usually gives me more time to walk for exercise than the days I am at work, with the exception of sick days (of course).

The second picture shows January through September with plenty of room for the last three months of the year.

More New Work in Progress

I am halfway through adding the 160 or so hand stamped squares onto the stiffened and stitched fabric with monoprinted grids of construction fences. I’ll finish it today and then I’ll incorporate the sections of vintage tablecloths ASAP after the matt medium is dry.

New Work in Progress

Starting a new series of work on fabric that is stiffened after stitching the monoprinted grids of construction fences. I want to incorporate sections of vintage tablecloths, hand stamping, and painting to create new patterns, mixing the old with the new. Here are some different (and possible) layouts of the pieces of tablecloths before I add other elements. It’ll be interesting to see how this processes and where it goes.

Sun!

The sun shining in the window of my tiny art studio on my Dates in a Life 2024 painting on the left. On the right is my 2025 painting in progress. Both document the number of steps I walk each day (by the thousands) using hand stamped icons. My messy painting and sewing table is in the foreground.

Work in Progress: Dates in a Life Walking Project 2025

Here is the month of August in my Dates in a Life Walking Project 2025 painting, a year-long painting documenting the number of steps I walked each day. I have documented my steps in paintings since 2016.

The black icons represent up to 9999 steps walked each day, red represents 10,000-19,999 steps and yellow represents 20,000-29,999 steps.

I was able to walk 10,000 steps or more on nine days (the red icons) because it was more mild summer weather, and on August 23rd I walked over 27,000 steps (the yellow icon), which was 8.8 miles) when we were on vacation in Boston, even though it's only 22 miles from our home. It was a lot of fun walking all over the City to the various places we wanted to visit. I loved not having a car! And I if I had had a little more time, I would have loved to walk over 30,000 steps, which I never not done during my time documenting my steps. The 27K was a milestone and I was very close to a bigger one!

The second week in August, I walked the same number of steps (over 6000 which is 2.5 miles +/-) each day, represented with the open square icons for six of the seven days. I struggled to walk because it was miserably hot and humid. I don't feel well when the weather is like that, but I pushed myself toward that minimum goal though I would have preferred to stay inside in air-conditioning.

The Iridescent Bright Gold background paint used to signify the days (mostly weekends, but also including holidays, vacations days, and sick days) I was not at work, which usually gives me more time to walk for exercise than the days I am at work, with the exception of sick days (of course).

The second picture shows January through August with plenty of room for the rest of the year.
